Volunteers at Monash Health not only improve patient experiences through the tremendous help they provide, they also offer assistance and support to employees across our various campuses and departments.

Read what some of our leaders have to say on how volunteers assist employees within their departments and the effect it has on the patient experience.

Kym Forrest, General Manger Children’s Program and Monash Children’s Hospital, shares how volunteers offer a sense of support and assistance at Monash Children’s Hospital, which makes a significant difference to patient experience.

‘Volunteers are part of the Monash Children’s family as they establish relationships with staff, children and families in the areas they work. They provide a smiling face while complimenting the work of the clinical teams and providing pivotal support in our activity spaces’.

Dana Kiley, Director Clinical Operations (Surgery) Dandenong & Director of Nursing, discussed the excitement of having volunteers return to Dandenong Hospital.

‘It is fantastic! It is so helpful to have them placed at Front Entrance after the screening area, it makes such a difference to the screening job. Sometimes it gets so busy and it is wonderful to be able to have them support us to get people to where they need to be after we have screened them. It really is great to have them back.’

Janet Walker, Nurse Unit Manager of McCulloch House Palliative Care, reveals how Volunteers at McCulloch House, ‘brighten the day’ for both employee and patients.

‘Volunteers mean the world to palliative care; they can make employees and patients feel special just by spending time talking and getting to know them. They help bring joy and relaxation into our ward.  We are so glad to welcome them back!’

We look forward to formally celebrating and thanking our volunteers at a luncheon at Southern Golf Club on Thursday 20 May.
