Online repeat prescription ordering service rolled out at Monash Children’s Hospital

The Monash Health Pharmacy team have recently commenced a new service which allows patients to order medication online. The service will initially be trialled at Monash Children’s Hospital, with a plan to introduce it across all Monash Health hospitals in August.

The service allows patients to order their repeat prescriptions online at any time, without needing to call our pharmacies during business hours. Patients can choose whether to pick up their prescriptions or have them mailed out to them. During COVID-19, this has reduced the time vulnerable people are out in the community, while ensuring they continue to receive their medication in a timely manner.

The team identified that they were spending a considerable amount of time on the phone taking prescription orders. The new service allows the team to dedicate more time to other urgent tasks and helps to reduce interruptions and dispensing errors.

Andrew Chong, Assistant Deputy Directory of Pharmacy at Monash Children’s Hospital, spoke about how feedback from both patients and employees had driven this project.

“We increasingly use technology in our day-to-day lives, from online shopping to using apps for home delivery. Patients are looking for more convenient ways to order their medication. I hope this makes life a little easier for our patients.”

Well done to Monash Health Pharmacy on the launch of this new service!
