Microsoft’s support for Windows 7 has finished. This means that if you are still using Windows 7, your PC may become more vulnerable to security risks, and could expose Monash Health to the risk of a total system outage.
To minimise this risk, our Digital Health team has been migrating Monash Health computers and laptops from Windows 7 to Windows 10. We are now nearing the end of that migration.
Starting in mid-July, all remaining Windows 7 devices will be “locked”, removing access to email, USB devices and the internet (web browsers) until they have been upgraded to Windows 10. By the end of September, all Windows 7 devices will cease to operate on our network.
If you have Windows 7 devices in your work area, you need to act now.
Process for upgrading your Windows 7 device
If you have a Windows 7 device, email Windows10Upgrade@monashhealth.org with the following details:
- Name
- Employee number
- Contact phone number
- Device asset number
- The site, location and room number you work from
- Preferred days and times to replace/upgrade your device
- Any non-standard/specific programs that are installed on the device
We’ll work with you to organise the device replacement/upgrade.
If your Windows 7 device is older than 3 years old, it will be replaced by a new device with Windows 10 installed on it. This includes replacing the monitor, keyboard and mouse for PCs. If your laptop is replaced, you will receive a new laptop bag, docking station, keyboard and mouse.
If your device is less than 3 years old, it will be upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
The replacements or upgrades will take approximately 60 minutes per device.
Identifying Windows 7
Windows 7 devices have a grey taskbar as per the picture below:
Windows 10 devices have a black taskbar and do not need to be replaced or upgraded, see below:
