This week, we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) is the national week to celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme is Heal Country! – a call to continue to seek greater protection for lands, waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage.
To celebrate NAIDOC Week, Monash Health’s Aboriginal Health team is running events throughout the week:
Welcome to Country (Monday 5 July, 11am)
Join us for a Welcome to Country delivered by a Wurundjeri Elder to commence NAIDOC Week.
Virtual Workshop (Wednesday 7 July, 10am to 3pm)
You can enrol in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness Training Workshop through LATTE. This session will run from 10am to 3pm.
Story Telling with Uncle Jack Charles (Thursday 8 July, 2pm to 3pm)
Uncle Jack Charles is an actor, musician, author, potter and gifted performer. He is an inspiring speaker who entertains and informs on a broad range of topics including racism, and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
These sessions will not be recorded, so we encourage you to take time out of your day to attend if you can.
