Update: COVID-19 Vaccination Emergency Workforce

With recent changes to the Australian COVID-19 vaccination program rollout, this is an opportune time to share an update with many of you who have stepped up for additional shifts or roles supporting our COVID-19 vaccination program.

The recommendation that Pfizer is the preferred vaccine for those aged under 60, coupled with limited Pfizer supply, means there will be a natural slowing down of COVID-19 vaccination administration until Pfizer stock is replenished in late September to early October. This means there may be fewer shifts for internal and external applicants at our high-volume vaccination centres and hospital sites over the coming weeks.

Please be reassured we are continuing to work through applications, and preparations will not slow down for the inevitable surge in workforce demand when supplies increase. In the meantime, there are opportunities still available for employees looking for additional shifts or roles. We would welcome our talented workforce in our COVID-19 screening clinics, emergency departments, wards and work areas right across our sites.

If you have applied for roles, completed your training for COVID-19 vaccination centre shifts and are ready to work, please email our South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU) Central Workforce team to confirm your continued interest at SCWenquiries@monashhealth.org or call (03) 8572 5600.

The SEPHU Central Workforce team can assist you in processes, such as registering for ShiftMatch. Already set up on ShiftMatch and not received notifications of shifts, or shift notifications have reduced? The team can accommodate an orientation and some shifts to prepare you for the upcoming surge needs.

While we will make every effort to spread shifts evenly for all of our vaccination workforce roles, the next few weeks may still have limited shifts compared to high-demand periods. That’s why we encourage you to consider picking up shifts or positions in other areas of Monash Health in the meantime.

If you have applied for COVID-19 vaccination workforce roles and would like to discuss other skills you can put to great use and ensure exceptional care is delivered anywhere at Monash Health, please don’t hesitate to contact the SEPHU Central Workforce team.
