Some significant changes have been made to the Leave Types and Entitlements Procedure.
The changes include:
Statutory Declarations – where an employee provides a statutory declaration as evidence of their absence, it should be signed by someone other than an immediate family member.
Leave Without Pay/Leave at half pay – the procedure has been updated to provide guidance/criteria on when Monash Health may approve a request for leave at half pay or leave without pay.
For Casual Employees – it is recommended that casual employees provide evidence of any illness or injury that prevents them from accepting and working casual shifts, as these absences may have an impact on their eligibility for Long Service Leave.
Specifically:
- From 1 July 2020, absences due to illness or injury will count for service and no longer break continuous service under the proposed Nurses and Midwives enterprise agreement; and
- The Long Service Leave Act 2019 (Vic) provides that absences due to illness or injury of any duration do not break continuous service.
As a consequence, it is important we have evidence (medical certificate or statutory declaration) of any illness or injury that prevents a casual employee from working shifts. The certificate or statutory declaration should state the expected period of absence.
The changes and update to the former policy were approved by the OHS committee and are available on Prompt.
