Wound Awareness Week, 23 August to 29 August, is an opportunity to educate and raise awareness of wound prevention and management. Pressure injuries are a leading cause of preventable harm in hospitals.
Every year, over 420,000 Australians suffer from a chronic wound – many of which are the result of unrelieved pressure during a patient’s hospital stay.
Pressure injuries are preventable
Monash Health recognises that pressure injuries are a significant risk to patients in our care. They can impact patient comfort, quality of life, length of stay and cost of care. Monash Health is committed to preventing pressure injuries. We are partnering with patients and their families to develop and implement personalised, targeted pressure injury care plans.

Additionally, the pressure injury staging module on LATTE provides clinicians with the knowledge to accurately stage and report pressure injuries. Monash Partners also have several resources available for Monash Health employees.
Clinicians can refer to the information and resources on PROMPT to support, guide and deliver a comprehensive care plan for patients, carers and their families.

Join our upcoming event
Join us for a forum on Preventing and Managing Pressure Injuries at Monash Health. The forum will be hosted by the Pressure Injury Sub-Committee, in partnership with the Nursing and Midwifery Education and Strategy (NaMES) Department.
This event aims to raise awareness of what we do at Monash Health to prevent pressure injuries. Additionally, it will provide clinicians with education on the staging and reporting of pressure injuries through an interactive activity.
