Monash Health exposure sites
Monash Medical Centre Emergency Department
We have learned that a patient who visited the Monash Medical Centre Emergency Department between 3.20pm and 6.30pm on Saturday 21 August later tested positive for COVID-19.
Communication with the impacted areas has occurred in the well-practised way we have done for the past 12 months.
The South East Public Health Unit immediately commenced the process of contact tracing. As per Department of Health exposure criteria, three employees have been deemed to have been in close contact and have been asked to take a test and self-isolate for 14 days.
All other employees who did not have close contact with the patient were wearing appropriate PPE and are not at risk.
The MMC ED will be listed as a public exposure site as below:
- Waiting room between 3:20pm and 3:35pm – Tier 2
- Fast track area between 3:35pm and 6:30pm – Tier 1
Cranbourne Vaccination Centre
There was a second potential exposure at our Cranbourne Vaccination Centre, between 1:30pm and 2:30pm on Saturday 21 August. A patient, wearing a mask, attended when symptomatic.
Contact tracing for employees is complete. One team member, who delivered the vaccination, has been deemed to have been in close contact and has been asked to take a test and self-isolate for 14 days.
The Cranbourne Vaccination Centre will be listed as a Tier 2 public exposure site between 1:30pm and 2:30pm on Saturday 21 August.

In both cases, the impact of the potential exposure has been significantly reduced by the correct use of PPE. Please remind yourself of our PPE standard and remain vigilant in donning, using and doffing PPE.
Contact tracing has also occurred for the broader community who attended these sites at the times outlined.
