Updated PPE requirements for Kingston, Moorabbin, Residential Aged Care, Code Blues and Met Calls
In response to increasing case numbers in the south east, we have made changes to our PPE requirements for Kingston and Moorabbin sites, Residential Aged Care, Code Blues (adults) and Met Calls (adults).
Kingston Centre, Moorabbin Hospital and Residential Aged Care
Patient-facing employees at the Kingston Centre, Moorabbin Hospital and our Residential Aged Care Facilities will return to N95 masks and eye protection as standard PPE.
Understanding which PPE to use:
- If you have no contact with patients
-
- Tier 0 PPE – surgical mask
- If you have contact with patients in any other care location
-
- Tier 1 PPE – N95 mask and eye protection
- If you work in SCOVID and COVID-19 streaming areas
-
- Tier 3 PPE – gloves, gown, N95 mask, and eye protection
Further detail about which PPE to use in different working situations is outlined in our PPE Compulsory Standards.
Code Blues and MET calls – Adult patients
We are moving to a higher level of PPE for Code Blues and MET call teams for adult patients.
All patient-facing employees are now wearing N95 masks and face shields.
To balance the risk of our healthcare workers furlough vs possible delays in care, when a MET or Code Blue is called, the first responder/s who are already in the patient environment and in N95 masks and face shields will commence Basic Life Support in standard precautions, as per Monash Health guidelines.
When the MET call and Code Blue teams arrive, they will attend in Tier 3 PPE.
Site-specific details on Code Blue and MET call PPE requirements can be found here.
