Special Series: Dr Cameron Wolfe COVID-19 Q&A Sessions
Dr Cameron Wolfe: having a conversation, understanding the risks, and the ‘bigger picture’ helps those with vaccine hesitancy
Today I continue the Special Series with Monash Health alum Dr Cameron Wolfe, now Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Hospital, North Carolina.
In our second conversation, Cameron describes the different ways to approach a conversation with your patients or family and friends about COVID-19 vaccination.
Even with increasing vaccination rates, some community members will remain anxious and deserve a gentle, non-judgemental opportunity to discuss their concerns. As healthcare workers, we hold a unique and trusted position for our community, and they are likely to seek advice about COVID-19 vaccination from us.
Cameron reminds us of the importance of a measured and compassionate approach if you are asked about vaccination or wish to support someone. Particularly as, “it can be a long conversation with many different reasons for being hesitant.”
As one of the first people to have received the Pfizer vaccine in early clinical trials at Duke University Hospital in 2020, Cameron can speak from firsthand experience of how the vaccines could be rapidly developed and tested while maintaining safety and efficacy.
He remains empathetic and practical as he talks about putting risks into context, the multiple reasons vaccination can improve individual and community health outcomes and the broader benefits for education, travel and local business.
Watch the video and hear Cameron’s advice on how to hold a conversation about vaccination that is both credible and supportive.
Thank you for making a difference in our community during these challenging times.
