Celebrate World Occupational Therapy Day

Wednesday, 27 October, is World Occupational Therapy Day, celebrated during Occupational Therapy Week 25 – 32 October.

The theme for 2021 is “participation, inclusion and independence”, celebrating and acknowledging the unique role occupation therapists play in supporting people of all abilities to engage in activities they find meaningful and bring purpose to their lives.

In occupational therapy, occupations refer to the everyday activities people do as individuals, families, and communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life.

Occupations include things people need to, want to and are expected to do, including everything from taking care of oneself, working, volunteering, and participating in hobbies, interests and social events.

We have over 250 occupational therapists employed at Monash Health across all program areas. We have occupational therapists working in all the pillars of our current COVID-19 response, adapting and rising to the challenges our health service and our broader community face.

This week, please take the time to acknowledge and celebrate the occupational therapists in your teams to learn more about the role occupational therapists play in enhancing lives.
