At this week’s employee forum, Professor Rhonda Stuart discussed the importance of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses and reminded employees to make an appointment if they are eligible.
“Out of about 10,500 employees who could be eligible for their boosters, there have only been about 5,500 employees who have received them. It is an important time to start thinking about your booster dose.”
Booster doses have been available since 30 October following a recommendation from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).
In her presentation, Professor Stuart reiterated the eligibility criteria for a COVID-19 booster dose:
- If you are 18 years and older, and;
- If you received your second dose of your primary dose course of COVID-19 vaccination at least 6 months ago.
While the booster doses are not mandatory, they are recommended to maintain immunity against COVID-19. Professor Stuart shared that a booster dose increases your protection against infection from the virus that causes COVID-19, severe disease and death.
