Friday, 3 December is International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD), an opportunity to celebrate the contribution and achievements of people with a disability and for us to question the way we think about disability, particularly in the workplace.
The disability royal commission heard recently that 53.4% of people with a disability of working age were unemployed in 2018, a figure that’s remained stable for decades. So as managers, and at an organisational level, it’s important that we challenge ourselves to do more.
Celebrating IDPWD – you CAN ask that
Join us at our fortnightly Manager Briefing on Wednesday, 1 December to celebrate IDPWD and explore this year’s theme – Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’.
We’ll share the work we’re doing to refresh our Disability Action Plan (DAP) and celebrate our recent success in delivering health care to people with a disability in response to COVID-19.
We’re also lucky enough to be joined by an expert panel with visible and invisible disabilities, plus experience of advocacy work around how managers can attract, retain and support people with a disability in the workplace. We know that demystifying and destigmatising employment of people with a disability is key to a more inclusive culture and this session will provide a safe space to ask questions and learn more.
No question is off-limits so please submit these ahead of time by logging into Sli.do and using the code #MHMB2021.
