A new ‘People and Culture Drug and Alcohol Use in the Workplace’ procedure is now available on PROMPT, along with information guides for both employees and managers.
The new PROMPT procedure and resources have been developed to ensure employees and managers are informed of their responsibilities regarding drug and alcohol use in the workplace. This includes, but is not limited to:
- The expected behaviours of employees regarding the use and consumption of alcohol and/ or drugs in the workplace.
- Monash Health’s management processes when an employee is impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
- Information for managers in supporting and managing an employee that is impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
- Guidance for employees if they are suspected of being impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
You can view and download the new procedure via PROMPT.
Supporting the new procedure, are two information guides available for employees and managers. These guides provide advice on signs of drug and alcohol impairment, how to conduct supportive discussions, where to go for support and assistance, and alcohol and/or drug services and resources available for employees. This information is available on the People and Culture intranet pages.
- Employee Guide – Drug and Alcohol Use in the Workplace
- Manager Guide – Drug and Alcohol Use in the Workplace
Monash Health takes alcohol and or drug use within the workplace very seriously. The organisation acknowledges that drinking alcohol or taking illicit or prescription drugs is an individual choice or necessity. However, this use must not interfere or impair an employee’s ability to safely perform their duties, reduce their dependability nor reflect negatively on the employee or Monash Health. An employee must not present to work when they are impaired by alcohol and/or drugs or medication.
If you have any questions regarding the new resources or about drug and/or alcohol use in the workplace, please discuss with your manager or email hradvice@monashhealth.org.
