2020-21 Annual Report – a year in and out of the trenches

As another extraordinary year heads towards a close, Chief Executive Andrew Stripp presented the 2020-21 Annual Report at yesterday’s Annual General Meeting and Open Board Meeting.

The importance of providing high-quality public health care has arguably never been more pronounced than over the past year as we dealt with the ongoing pandemic. And the Report showcases the adaptability, determination and commitment of our team in responding to COVID-19 while continuing to provide ongoing exceptional care.

Some of the Report highlights include:

  • our selection as a State Vaccination Hub trusted with the storage and distribution of vaccines within the south-east
  • the establishment of high-volume COVID-19 vaccination centres together with pop-up testing and vaccination clinics to allow us to respond to outbreaks with agility
  • creation of the South East Public Health Unit, partnering with other health services, private hospitals and community providers to establish screening, testing, vaccination, contact tracing and outbreak management protocols
  • the opening of our new Emergency Department and dedicated children’s emergency area at Monash Medical Centre
  • the official launch of the Moose Imagination Tree at the Monash Children’s Hospital, and
  • the continuation of more than 140 active research studies, including 60 new COVID-19 studies, supported in part by over $450,000 raised through the Monash Health Foundation’s COVID-19 appeal.

In opening the 2020-21 AGM, Monash Health Board Chair, Dipak Sanghvi, spoke about “another remarkable year”, noting that “much is expected of us and much is expected of our people – and they delivered. I could not be prouder of our people’s resilience and commitment to excellence.”

In his presentation, Andrew Stripp said, “we have excelled because we care and because we will not accept mediocrity”, thanking all employees for their “flexibility, innovation and endurance.”

The Report is available on monashhealth.org today, having earlier been tabled in parliament.
