Hospital Surge Support Allowance extended

The Victorian Government’s Hospital Surge Support Allowance has been extended to 31 March 2022.

What is the Hospital Surge Support Allowance?

The Victorian Government’s Hospital Surge Support Allowance is a temporary allowance to support patient-facing healthcare workers who are providing direct care in public hospital services.

The Allowance aims to retain highly skilled workers in the priority areas over the COVID-19 surge and traditional holiday periods. It will provide an incentive for current employees and will support part-time and casual employees to take up additional shifts in the acute settings where they are most needed.

The Allowance is not related to the likelihood that you will need to care for COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19 patients.

Who is eligible for the Hospital Surge Support Allowance?

Employees who are working patient-facing shifts providing direct face-to-face care to patients in a healthcare setting will be eligible for the Hospital Surge Support Allowance. Employees will not be eligible if they are providing virtual care to patients.

Employees may be employed on a full-time, part-time or casual basis.

You can read more about eligibility for the Allowance here.
