As of 3 February 2022, people aged 16 and 17 years are eligible to receive a third dose (booster) of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine following ATAGI’s recommendation and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announcement on 28 January.
A third dose can be administered three months after the completion of a primary course of COVID-19 vaccines (two doses).
A third dose will help maintain protection against COVID-19, help Victoria remain open, and support communities, businesses and schools to continue operating in a COVID-safe way.
Two initial doses of a COVID-19 vaccine are very effective at preventing infection and serious illness. International evidence suggests that this protection against COVID-19 gradually decreases over time, particularly from four months onwards. A third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine helps prevent waning immunity (loss of protection) against COVID-19.
If you had COVID-19, you are still strongly encouraged to have your third dose as soon as you recover, have completed 7 days of isolation, and are eligible.
People aged 16 to 17 years who are severely immunocompromised and have received a third primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine (refer to ATAGI advice) should also receive a booster dose (fourth dose) of the Pfizer vaccine when they become eligible from three months after receiving their third primary dose.
Employees can walk in with their household members at Sandown, Cranbourne or Dandenong Plaza vaccination clinics to receive priority access. Alternatively, employees can book a COVID vaccination appointment at Clinic D, MMC for their household members, including children aged 5 to 11, by calling our COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline on (03) 8572 2156.
