All employees are welcome at the Monash Health online panel discussion on Wednesday 9 March to mark International Women’s Day (IWD).
Special guests will discuss our work towards an inclusive culture.
The worldwide theme of IWD 2022 is #BreakTheBias, and there are plenty of great resources available to use in our workplaces, including online meeting backgrounds, selfie cards, and posters.
Executive Director, People and Culture, Karen Lowe, will co-chair the panel with the new co-chair of the Gender Equality Committee, Emilio Pozo.
Emilio, who co-chairs the committee with Chief Medical Officer Anjali Dhulia, says everybody, irrespective of role or gender, should be treated with respect and fairness.
“The first step is to ensure awareness and understanding that inequality issues between men and women DO exist and are real,” he says. “Men should prioritise their understanding of this.”
Karen says Monash Health’s commitment to annual unconscious bias training aligns with the #BreaktheBias theme.
“The Unconscious Bias course helps us all to understand and be aware of the impact our unconscious biases can have in the workplace and on our colleagues,” she says.
Monash Health’s journey for gender equality formally began in June 2015 with the launch of the Women in Medicine program. In late 2018 the program morphed into our organisational program for Gender Equality under the broader Equity and Inclusion Strategy. The new Gender Equality Action Plan will be launched in coming weeks.
