Words matter. Behaviours matter. Our work environment matters. Our employees matter – How and when to complete your OVA risk assessment
Now, more than ever, it’s important that we’re taking steps to look after the health, safety and wellbeing of our Monash Health team. Looking after each other is critical and we need to focus on providing a workplace where leaders promote and facilitate an environment that ensures all our people finish each day safe and well.
To support this, we’ve worked with several of our clinical staff to revise and simplify our OVA risk assessment tool. We’ve also produced guidelines to make the assessment process as simple as possible for managers and their Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs). The OVA risk assessment is now available via PROMPT and the OVA guidelines can be found on the Safety Intranet. Your current Workplace assessment in Protect has a question to prompt you to complete the OVA Risk Assessment in your area.
Managers, in consultation with their team and HSR, now need to complete an annual mandatory OVA risk assessment, in all areas accessed by members of the public. The OVA risk assessment helps to assess any hazards which may exacerbate the risk of OVA and identify control measures to mitigate those risks.
The completion date has been extended and all OVA risk assessments are now due to be completed by Tuesday 31 May 2022. A copy of the assessment should be saved electronically, and hard copies placed on non-public facing noticeboards.
Completion of the OVA risk assessment is mandatory in all departments. If an area is considered to have little or no OVA Risk (such as a non-public or patient-facing area) contact your local OHS advisor, call the OHS advice line 9594 6140, or email safety@monashhealth.org.
