Microsoft Edge is replacing Internet Explorer next week

Monash Health Information Technology (IT) are currently concluding testing for the MS Edge web browser to replace Internet Explorer on all Monash Health computers and devices.

When is this happening?

The organisation-wide replacement will be in place from Monday 23 May.

How will this affect me?

The Internet Explorer icon will be replaced with the MS Edge Icon, and all links, applications, and software that previously opened in Internet Explorer will now automatically open in MS Edge.

The replacement will occur automatically, and you will not need to do anything.

Please note, all Payroll and IT forms have been tested in MS Edge and will continue to work once the replacement occurs. Additionally, Google Chrome will not be affected by this change and will continue to function in its usual capacity.

Why is Edge replacing Internet Explorer?

Microsoft is decommissioning Internet Explorer worldwide by the end of June 2022.

MS Edge will supply Monash Health with highly improved browsing security, interface, performance, and integration with our updated software, including M365.

Where can I go for help?

Once the replacement has occurred, if you experience any difficulty with the MS Edge browser, please first attempt to restart your device, and try again.

If any of these issues are causing clinical impact (e.g., patient forms are not opening or displaying correctly), please contact the IT service desk on 9594 7255 or via the IT intranet portal.

Please note: some TOTO machines have already replaced Internet Explorer with MS Edge – on these machines, there will be no change. Additionally, following the replacement, the Internet Explorer icon may still be discoverable on some devices (for example in the start-up menu), allowing you to still click on the icon, but it will redirect to MS Edge to open. This is supposed to happen.

Please keep an eye out next week for MS Edge learning material to learn more about how you can use additional features of MS Edge.
