Nurses EBA 2020 – increases to Change of Roster allowance

Updated information is now available about the increased Change of Roster (COR) allowance under the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Health Sector)(Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024 (‘the Nurses EBA 2020’).

The COR allowance under the Nurses EBA 2020 is payable where Monash Health changes an employee’s roster or planned on-call roster (except in emergency situations) as follows:

  • 7 days’ or less notice – 5% of the base rate, and
  • 8 to 14 days’ notice – 2.5% of the base rate.

You may also be eligible for the allowance where you pick up an additional shift arising from vacancies in the normal nursing roster that cannot be filled from the supplementary roster.

Employees under this EBA are eligible for back pay from the first full roster period on or after 1 July 2020.

If you received the allowance between 1 July 2020 and August 2021 (when the new allowance was updated in Kronos), you are eligible for back pay of 2.5% to ensure you received the higher 5% allowance. Payroll is currently processing this back pay and we expect this to be included in the pay period ending 5 June 2022.

As the allowance for 8-14 days’ notice is new and was not known to Monash until July 2021, we do not hold information relating to employees who may have had their roster changed, or picked up an additional shift, with 8-14 days’ notice. Therefore, if you believe you have not been paid the correct allowance, please provide your manager with evidence to assess your eligibility. If you are eligible, your manager will complete a Kronos amendment form for you.

If you have not received the allowance where you have accepted shifts through WhatsApp or SMSer, you may also be eligible for back pay and should discuss this with your manager.

More information is available on the People and Culture intranet page and we will be sending the updated memo to employees under this EBA later this week, so please keep an eye on your emails.

If you have any additional questions, please contact the People and Culture Advice Line on hradvice@monashhealth.org or 9265 2724. Alternatively, you can discuss this with your manager or union representative.
