OHS Policy Update

Significant changes to the Occupational Health and Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2021 (Amendment Act) were passed by the Victorian Parliament and received Royal Assent on 21 September 2021.

These changes include the introduction of greater health and safety obligations, affecting all Victorian Public sector employers.

In line with the legislative amendments, Monash Health has made updates to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policy to reflect these changes. The revised policy was signed off by Chief Executive Andrew Stripp on 27 May 2022 and replaces the April 2017 version.

What has changed

The revised policy aligns with Monash Health’s iCare values and our duty of care to staff and patients.

Changes to the policy include:

  • A commitment to provide a healthy and safe working environment for suppliers, in addition to employees, volunteers, patients, visitors and contractors.
  • More comprehensive monitoring of OHS performance and effectiveness of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), with opportunities for continual improvement.
  • A legal obligation to consult with labour hire workforce.
  • Managers will consult with employees and Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) about issues that may directly affect their health and safety at the workplace.
  • Management will provide instruction, training, and resources for employees to minimise risk to health and safety.

A copy of the revised OHS Policy can be found on PROMPT

Hard copies of the revised policy are displayed across all Monash Health Workplace Health and Safety Noticeboards.
