Casey Hospital will receive a boost to emergency department capacity with the operationalisation of new innovative treatment bays, housed in a specially designed modular facility adjacent to the existing emergency department.
From 19 July, this temporary modular facility will be used to treat patients, providing a boost to acute emergency department capacity for both COVID and non-COVID patients.
The modular facility features twelve cubicles, four of which will be utilised as resuscitation cubicles. There are two negative pressure rooms, dirty and clean utility, medical and nurse workstations, an employee break room, and bathroom facilities. The entire modular facility will be negative flow so this will provide a safe treatment space for our SCOVID/COVID and respiratory patients. Access to the new modular facility will be via an enclosed walkway from the existing emergency department.
“This is a creative solution, and the modular is very impressive,” says Annie Sherry, Director of Clinical Operations for Emergency Medicine at Casey Hospital.
“It really does feel like you’re walking into a ward setting and the modular development will provide us with a welcome boost in terms of space and facilities.”
Training and tours of the new facility are underway so that relevant clinical and non-clinical teams are familiar with the environment before patients arrive.
