This week is Dental Health Week, a time to think about our dental hygiene practices to ensure we keep our healthy smiles for life.
It should not be normal to expect that you will need to have some teeth removed because of tooth decay or gum disease. By following the four simple steps below, you can ensure that your teeth will be yours for life.
- Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Clean between your teeth daily using floss or interdental brushes.
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet and limit added sugar intake.
- Visit the dentist regularly for check-ups and preventative care.
This year, Monash Health’s Dental Health Team is focusing on improving the oral health of children of all ages to help them keep their teeth for life. The team will be busy running outreach activities at early childhood services, primary schools, secondary schools and English Language schools.
Activities will cover important oral health topics including the effects of sugary foods, fizzy drinks, vaping, smoking, and the importance of mouthguards in contact sports. Schools have also been invited to participate in poster competitions promoting important oral health topics.
Employees and patients can check out our dental sites at Berwick, Cranbourne, Dandenong and Springvale, where the Dental Health Team will have health promotion booths to educate about the importance of good oral health. Patients of our David Street and Pakenham sites can also test their colouring-in skills for a chance to win a dental prize pack.
