Twilight dialysis service established to meet growing demand

In response to increasing demand for Monash Health satellite haemodialysis, our Nephrology Service has commenced a trial twilight service at Dandenong Satellite Dialysis Unit as a much-needed service expansion strategy.

The twilight shifts provide 5-hour patient treatments from 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 122 Thomas Street, Dandenong, with all patients safely on their way home by midnight.

The expanded service will allow an additional 15 patients who live in the Dandenong area to dialyse closer to home, which will reduce their travel burden, and offer improved quality of life for both our patients and their carers.

Our Dandenong Satellite Dialysis Unit team has been understanding of the growing demand and the benefits the additional services will provide to our patients, and has provided a great deal of thought and support in preparation for the additional service.

We thank all involved in this important venture, including site management and support services. A special acknowledgement goes to Karen Gilbert, Nurse Manager – for leading a confident team to facilitate this important service.

The inaugural twilight shift took place on Monday 5 September, with the trial anticipated to continue until 30 June next year.
