National Carers Week 2022

This week is National Carers Week (16 – 22 October), which gives us the opportunity to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness about the diversity of Australia’s 2.65 million carers and their roles.

Carers are people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental health condition, chronic condition, terminal illness, alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

This year’s theme “Millions of Reasons to Care” highlights the number of people in the community who fulfill a carer’s role, from family members to friends, and community connections. Carers form a vital component of the Monash Health community, providing care and support to many of our consumers on a daily basis.

As part of National Carers Week, Monash Health’s Engagement Team will attend “Carers’ Day Out 2022” hosted by the City of Casey. This event will give our team the opportunity to engage with carers in the community, who are vital for informing and shaping our services.

Most recently, carers have played a significant role in informing our Disability Action Plan 2023-27 through the consultation process. By listening and engaging directly with carers, we are better able to respond to the changing needs of people with a disability, and provide a safe, accessible, welcoming and inclusive health service.
