Moorabbin Hospital Ladies Auxiliary long service was celebrated with a thank you event held at Moorabbin Hospital last week.
Members have decided to disband after raising close to $1.5m over the last 47 years.
At its peak the Auxiliary had 140 members, raising funds through grass-roots activities including fairs, raffles, market stalls and a kiosk, which ran at Moorabbin for many years.
Speaking at the event, Board Chair Dipak Sanghvi said “the auxiliary played a key role in building the Monash Health we stand proudly by today.”
The event also brought past Moorabbin luminaries Sharon Wood and Professor Richard King to share in the special occasion with auxiliary members and current employees.
Professor King recalled that auxiliary funds allowed Moorabbin to buy its first gastroscope in the 1970s.
In 2010 Moorabbin Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary was acknowledged with a Premier’s Community Volunteering Award, and several members have been recognised with community service awards.
Special praise to President Pat Huggins, OAM who served Moorabbin Hospital, Southern Health and Monash Health for the past four decades.
