It pays to have friends

Here’s some good news: your friends and acquaintances could earn you up to $2000. 

Monash Health has launched a new initiative – the Employee Referral Program – which encourages employees to refer suitably skilled people to join the Monash Health team.

Executive Director People and Culture, Karen Lowe, says the Employee Referral Program aims to find enthusiastic and committed people to fill both clinical and non-clinical roles. 

“Studies show that employee reward programs such as this attract a higher level of quality candidates,” she says. 

“We want our valued employees to put the word out in their professional and social circles and ask people if they’re interested in being referred to Monash Health. We’re looking to attract like-minded people who share our core values and who have an unwavering commitment to excellence. 

“Like all healthcare providers, we are currently experiencing challenges in filling vacancies, and we know that our employees can judge if somebody is a good fit for the organisation.” 

Monash Health is looking to fill permanent (ongoing), fixed term, and full-time and part-time roles across the service.  

These include clinical roles in medical, nursing, pharmacy, allied health, as well as non-clinical positions in areas such as people and culture, IT, administration, food services, and environmental and patient services. 

Employees will need to complete a referral form with the person’s name, contact details, and a brief explanation of why they think the person would be an asset to Monash Health. If considered suitable, the referred person will be interviewed, and references and other probity checks may be conducted. An offer of employment may then be made. 

Once the new employee commences, the referring employee will receive the first payment of $500 (or pro-rata if the new employee is appointed to a part-time role). 

On completion of the Monash Health six-month probation period, the referring employee will be paid $1500 (or pro-rata if the new employee is in a part-time role). 

Rewards will be paid when referred people are appointed to fixed term or permanent (ongoing) roles, not to casual roles. 

“Employees don’t need to have worked or studied with the person they are referring,” Karen said. “You can refer as many people as you want, and there is no limit to the number of payments you can receive.”
