International Day of People with Disability – an event with Carly Findlay

Saturday 3 December is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), an annual day of recognition and celebration that aims to increase public awareness, understanding, acceptance and celebration of people with disability.

Next Wednesday 30 November, our fortnightly Manager Briefing will be open to all employees for a special event to celebrate IDPwD.

Join us to hear from award-winning writer, speaker and appearance activist, Carly Findlay, who identifies as a proud disabled woman.

Living with the severe skin condition, Ichthyosis, you can hear the lived experiences of Carly as a consumer in the health system, and participate in the discussion around recognising ableism, and managing safe and respectful conversations.

If you didn’t already know, Webex allows for closed captioning, and Carly has previously written a great article about hosting accessible events for last year’s IDPwD which you might like to read.

Carly’s extensive work in the disability landscape has earned her an Order of Australia, and we are excited she is sharing her insights with us. You can read more about Carly’s contributions to disability activism on her website.

You can participate in the conversation during the event by logging into Sli.do and using the code #MHMB2022.

At Monash Health, we are dedicated to eliminating barriers that prevent people from accessing and participating in our services, and our continued work in this space will be guided by our new Disability Action Plan due for completion in the coming months.
