Each year, an average of 690 pedestrians are seriously injured in car parks across Victoria. This is not surprising given that in 2022, Australia recorded more than 21,000 car crashes within car parks and that these are places where people are frequently rushed and distracted.
At Monash Health, we have had three reported incidents in our car parks resulting from parking in non-authorised areas in the last 12 months, including a pedestrian hit by a car.
These incidents are avoidable and it’s why we are calling on your support to keep our car parks safe and clean for every member of our Monash Health community.
How you can help
By parking only in marked, designated car spaces, you help to create a safer environment for your colleagues, pedestrians, and visitors at Monash Health. It ensures that you do not block pathways, entries, driveways, evacuation or delivery routes; obscure visibility for pedestrians, bicycles, or vehicles; or damage property and spaces.
It’s important to take your time, be extra vigilant and always adhere to car park speed limits.
Litter free is the way to be
Keeping our car parks safe and clean also means ensuring our spaces are free of debris and litter. Our teams clean regularly, however, maintaining our spaces relies on everyone doing the right thing.
Always put your rubbish in the bin or take it home with you for disposal. If you spot an area that could do with an additional bin, email General Services at your selected location.
With your help, we can ensure our car parks are clean and safe for every person, every day.
