Monash Health is excited to introduce our new “Move Smart” manual handling program.
We work in an environment where our day-to-day role involves manual handling tasks, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying.
The Move Smart Program ensures that you gain practical knowledge and develop skills to perform correct posture and lifting techniques during manual handling tasks. This helps minimise your risk of injury, encourages correct spine alignment, and helps you work effectively. It also ensures we comply with our legislative and regulatory requirements as an organisation.
What do I need to do?
You will have received an email outlining what you will need to do.
- All employees are required to complete the mandatory training on LATTE – ‘Move Smart – Introduction to Manual Handling’, then complete the online ‘Move Smart’ quiz by 1 October 2023. Once you have completed the module, you will receive a ‘complete’ on your training record.
- Nursing, Midwifery and Theatre Technician employees will be required to complete the ‘Move Smart – Introduction to Manual Handling’ training and an additional ‘Move Smart Manual Handling – All Nursing and Midwifery’ module. You will undertake training and be supported by your local Move Smart Champion, with ‘on-the-job’ coaching, new Safe Work Practices (SWPs), and video resources provided. Training will need to be completed every two years. Please note that the training can be completed in self-selected sections over time, coming back to where you left off until finished.
- Areas and units with higher manual handling requirements will be provided with additional training (face-to-face or online), new Safe Work Practices (SWPs) for your area, and video resources via our Move Smart Champions.
Areas that have been identified for additional training include:
- Allied Health – launch April
- Support Services – launch April/July
- Home-based care – to be advised
- Nurses in Dental, Hospital in the Home (HITH), and/or Post Acute Care (PAC) – to be advised
