Celebrating our midwives

Friday 5 May is International Day of the Midwife. A day we celebrate and recognise the hard work and dedication of midwives globally, including our over 750 midwives here at Monash Health.

Last financial year our midwives delivered close to 10,000 babies; a figure we will see grow this year with the addition of Sandringham Hospital Maternity Services in February.

At Monash Health, our midwifery team is at the forefront of improved health outcomes for women, their babies, and their families with approximately 11,500 being cared for across our maternity service each year.

Andrea Rindt, General Manager, Women’s & Newborn Program thanked all Monash Health Midwives “It is a special day for midwives here at Monash Health and around the world – a day to reflect on the difference we make in people’s lives.

We have an amazing team of midwives here and I am continually proud of the work they do.

Over recent years they have embraced change while continuing to provide safe high-quality care. Their passion for providing the best care for women, babies, and families in our local community has never wavered.

To each and every one of you I say thank you, I hope you find some time today to reflect on your journey as a midwife and the impact you have on women and their families daily.” said Andrea.

Adjunct Professor Katrina Nankervis, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer acknowledged the positive impact midwives make in the lives of many daily.

“As we celebrate International Day of the Midwife, I would like to thank the 750 midwives here at Monash Health for your dedication, expertise and compassion in supporting mothers, newborns and their families during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, particularly over the past 3 years in the face of so much uncertainty.

You make a profound difference in the lives of so many and I’m deeply grateful for all you do. I look forward to celebrating this occasion with you all at the upcoming Nursing and Midwifery Awards and Scholarships.”
