Today (May 17) is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia IDAHOBIT. In recognition of IDAHOBIT today we are hosting an all-employee forum at 2.00pm – 3.00pm encouraging a conversation with our managers and employees about what it means to be an Ally in the work context.
This morning as we raised the Progressive Pride flag over Monash Medical Centre (MMC), Monash Health’s LGBTIQA+ Committee Chair, Denise Owen, reflected on the work achieved so far this year.
“It has been an exciting year for the LGBTIQA+ committee, we have made great strides in updating our policies and procedures, to ensure our LGBTIQA+ employees, patients and visitors feel accepted and respected.
“I was also so incredibly proud to have been a part of Monash Health’s first representation in the Melbourne Pride March in February this year. Our participation in this event signalled our support for the rainbow community – our employees, patients and consumers.”
In the past year we have also seen the introduction of the prefeed pronoun name badges. Using pronouns on name badges and email signatures allows our employees to show respect to each other and for our patients and helps in building trust with our LGBTQIA+ community.
