Thank you to all those who provided feedback on Pay As You Go (PAYG) carparking. We want to provide an outline of the feedback we have received and the steps we are taking moving forward.
The extent of feedback provided, combined with a range of technical issues and legislative changes has resulted in a significant delay in implementation.
We do, however, believe that the delay will result in a much-improved solution and one that is based on employee feedback.
We will implement a new system by March 2024. We appreciate that this is a (further) delay, however, the end result will be a smarter PAYG carparking solution that will offer streamlined functionality and real-time visibility behind the scenes, and positions us well for the future.
What can we confirm?
After considering the feedback provided during the employee consultation process, a revised PAYG carparking fee structure has been developed, as follows:
- the first 30 minutes of parking is free
- parking will be charged at $3 for the following four hours (after the first 30 minutes of free parking), then at 35c per half hour thereafter.
Under the revised model, carpark usage for 9 hours will cost $6.15. This is lower than the amount currently paid by a full-time employee at $6.23 per day.
This will provide a fair and cost-effective solution for the majority of employees. We acknowledge that some situations may result in higher fees, however other times may result in lower fees. The fee structure is designed to provide a fair solution where employees will pay for parking in line with their usage.
We can also advise that new legislation now allows all drivers (including P-plate drivers) to access a mobile device in their car for “in-vehicle transactions”.
How will these changes impact PAYG carparking?
With all drivers now legally able to access a mobile device in their car for “in-vehicle transactions”, we can adopt Bluetooth technology for carpark entry. The benefits of including Bluetooth technology in the solution are:
- Real-time data on your account history and carpark capacities will be available via the app or website
- In-vehicle transaction for entry into carparks (no more opening your window in the rain!)
- Further online enhancements and customisations can be adopted in the long-term
- Improved system capabilities resolving the shortfalls identified during the consultation process
- We will have a standardised carparking solution across sites, including VHH.
