Role Based Communication with Baret – Expanding in September!

We’re making some changes to role-based communication at Monash Health, starting with our overnight clinicians in September.

Safe, high quality and timely communication between clinicians is critical to providing excellent patient care. To make it easier and more reliable to get in touch with the role you need, we are transitioning from Smartpage to Baret for night clinical employees across Monash Health.

What’s happening?

In September, our nursing, midwifery, medical, pathology and diagnostic imaging professions will transition to using Baret on-site at night instead of the Smartpage communication app.

Pagers will continue to be used by clinicians overnight for communicating clinical codes and contacting non-clinical staff where appropriate – except at VHH.

What is Baret?

Baret is an application within Microsoft Teams that facilitates secure role-based communication linked to Monash Health credentials. Clinicians have their roles built into Baret and can be contacted or return contact with a few simple clicks.

How this may affect you

In September, night clinical employees will be supported to use Baret for clinical communication instead of Smartpage.

Non-clinical employees who use paging at night will continue to do so.

Pagers will remain overnight to facilitate emergency communication.

What you should do to prepare

Continue to use current systems for clinical communication at night for now. In order to ensure that you are ready for this change in September, we will keep you up-to-date with the latest news and support in coming weeks.

Baret at Monash Health

With almost 4500 users, Baret is already transforming the way clinical communication occurs across the organisation. The app was initially introduced in July 2022, when Doctors, Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging employees across Monash Health started using it for notification of referrals and results.

All clinical employees have been using Baret instead of paging at the Victorian Heart Hospital since it opened in March 2023. We’ll share some of their experiences with you as we head towards the changeover.

What’s next

After the transition from Smartpage to Baret, we will look to further transitioning the organisation to Baret for clinical communication.
