Supporting our colleagues who are experiencing family violence

We have recently updated our Family Violence Manager’s Guide to supporting our employees to include the changes to Monash Health’s Family Violence Leave Policy

Monash Health provides safe and supportive responses to employees impacted by family violence. Often those experiencing family violence will reach out to a friend, family member or colleague at some point.

Glenda Bawden, Principal Strategic Advisor, Family Violence says it is important we recognise that employees may sometimes face situations of family violence in their personal lives.

“When an employee discloses information about family violence, we have a responsibility to provide a safe space and to manage disclosure in a sensitive and supportive way.

At Monash Health we offer a range of supports, such as flexible work arrangements, workplace safety plans, counselling and family violence leave.”

Not sure how to start a conversation?

You do not have to be an expert, but if you are aware of the signs and take the steps to educate yourself, you can make a difference.

The Family Violence Manager’s Guide to supporting our employees is one of the resources available to provide guidance and support to our teams.

The guideline has been developed by the Strengthening Hospital Responses to Family Violence (SHRFV) team in consultation with People and Culture, Social Work, Mental Health, the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (SECASA) and the Monash Health Family Violence Taskforce.

“You may notice that something isn’t right, and you can play a crucial role in supporting those that you care about,” Glenda says.

Visit our Respectful Relationships and Family Violence page for resources to help employees impacted by family violence, along with information to ensure employees can identify, respond and provide advice to help keep our people safe.
