Referendum 2023: Voting information for patients, residents and employees

Patient voting arrangements for the upcoming referendum

Following advice from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) we are unable to provide face-to-face mobile polling services at Monash Health for the upcoming referendum scheduled for Saturday 14 October 2023.

In preparation for the referendum, the AEC has voting arrangements in place for our patients who find themselves in our care and unable to attend a polling place on 14 October.

While you are not expected to assist patients in exercising their right to vote, some of our patients and their families/carers may have questions about how they can vote.

Patients and residents have three voting options (unless already registered as a General Postal Voter).

Apply for a postal vote

  • Patients are eligible to apply for a one-off postal vote if they are unable to attend a polling place on election day.
  • Applications to apply close 6 pm on Wednesday 11 October.
  • If eligible, patients can apply on the AEC website.
  • If a patient is unable to fill out the online form, paper forms are able to be downloaded from the website here.

Visit an early voting centre or polling place on referendum day

  • Patients, residents and consumers are eligible to visit an early voting centre if they are aware they will be in our care and unable to visit a polling place on election day.
  • If patients, residents or consumers are able, they can visit a polling place on referendum day, Saturday 14 October.
  • If eligible, patients can find their nearest centre via the AEC website.
