CHARM was introduced at Moorabbin hospital to Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU), Ward 2 & Moorabbin HITH on 24 October, as part of clinical go live 1. The primary disciplines using the new solution are medical, nursing, pharmacy, and clerical.
CHARM on the ground
Cancer services welcomes the digital initiative and “within the first few days of the solution release key benefits can be seen” says Chi Hao La (CHARM project officer). The solution has brought on efficiencies, and “has improved communications and transparency with medical, pharmacy and nursing staff” says Khoa Ho (Pharmacy team leader, Moorabbin Hospital).
Doctors have found that having the protocols available in CHARM has improved safety and saves “3 hours a day” of their time, time that would have been spent on manual paperwork, says Taha Al Mufti (Medical Oncology Registrar).
Nursing staff are also loving the digital initiatives brought on by the CHARM project and find that “CHARM is an intuitive solution and improves patient safety and has streamlined some of the processes and reduced double handling”, says Vu Nhung (ANUM, CDU).
HITH staff are loving the extra visibility to scheduled visits and treatments that the CHARM solution has given them and being the one source of treatment information, they “find that they are saving a lot of time wasted on paperwork and transporting physical paper charts, and more importantly reducing risks of missed home visits”, says Maria Juszczyk (NUM, HITH Moorabbin).
“The morning of the first go live was extra special for some of our patients. The first patient to have their anti-cancer therapy administered on CHARM was also celebrating her last day of her treatment course”, says Liz Ellankil, (project lead for CHARM and Senior Digital Business Analyst, PMO).
What’s next for CHARM
As the CHARM go live wraps up at Moorabbin hospital, the CHARM project team will prepare for Clinical go live 2.
Clinical go live 2 will commence on Wednesday 15 November, at Clayton, HITH Clayton, HITH Dandenong & HITH Casey. Go live support will be available for two weeks following clinical go live.
