Mandatory workplace inspections are now due for completion

Workplace inspections are critical to making sure we provide a safe working environment. They are also a mandatory component of our health and safety responsibility and assist in identifying and controlling any workplace hazards.

We have a responsibility to do what is reasonably practicable to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of risks or hazards in our workplace.

Workplace inspections are due to be completed by Friday 30 September 2022. We encourage you to download the department workplace inspection forms, which are available via Protect, and allocate time to complete any outstanding inspection tasks.

All unit, area, and department managers are accountable for:

  • Assigning the task of completing a Quarterly Workplace Inspection report to an employee
  • Ensuring the Health and Safety Representative/s are given the opportunity to be consulted throughout this inspection process
  • Ensuring that the results of the workplace inspections are entered into the online Workplace Inspections form and are submitted
  • Ensuring corrective actions are implemented to address documented hazards
  • Updating and closing out any outstanding open actions identified in previous inspections. ‘Fixing’ the things that you have identified is essential to help us protect our colleagues from injury and harm at work.

Workplace Inspection Actions – what do I need to do?

We are actively, imaginatively and flexibly working towards reducing and managing risks across Monash Health and to support this we require your help to resolve a large number of open actions.

You are responsible for closing out open actions in your department.

Follow the process below to determine if an action is relevant, and if not, how to close it.

  1. Visit the new OHS Safety Metrics Dashboard. This will display the number of Workplace Inspection actions that are currently open.
  2. Check the Open Actions Report – Live. This report provides details on ‘what’ the open actions are.
  3. Managers will then need to determine if an old action is still relevant, if not, CLOSE these out in Protect. Use the document ‘Closing and Managing Workplace Inspection Actionsto help guide you through the process.
  4. If the action is still current and relevant, allocate responsibility for completion.

If you need further assistance to close out an action, refer to Hints and Tips for closing out common actions.
