Recruitment advertising over the Christmas and New Year period

Over the Christmas and New Year period, we frequently see a reduction in the quality and quantity of applications to our advertised vacancies.

A significant number of candidates take leave over this time and are unavailable to interview in January. Equally, hiring managers may advertise vacancies and then take leave themselves, so they are unable to deal with applications that come in over this time.

The market for high-calibre candidates is limited at present across most areas, and good candidates are likely to secure new positions quickly, so it is important that we provide a positive recruitment experience over the coming months.

Review and adjust the closing date on vacancies

If you plan to advertise vacancies over the Christmas and New Year period, please include a closing date that will enable you to action applications quickly. This will assist in managing candidates’ expectations and our ability to progress suitable applicants in a timely way.

Police checks cease from 22 December until 2 January

Police Check processing through our Fit 2 Work provider will also cease from 22 December until 2 January 2024. If you are looking to complete any checks before the end of December, we encourage you to request your checks by 18 December 2023 at the latest. This allows enough time to obtain consent from applicants and receive the verification results from third parties.

Advertise only business-critical roles between 20 December and 5 January

The Recruitment Services Team will be operating with limited capacity over the Christmas and New Year period. We recommended that you advertise only business-critical roles between 20 December 2023 and 5 January 2024. Normal advertising activity will recommence from 8 January 2024.
