Strengthening our response to family violence

Intimate partner violence causes more illness, disability and deaths than any other risk factor for women aged 25–44 (AIHW 2019). In a health service as large as ours, the impact of family violence is significant for patients and employees. Health services are in a unique position to educate their staff to enable them to identify, respond and refer.

As part of the state government’s program to Strengthen Hospital Responses to Family Violence, the Monash Health Family Violence Unit was formed to address recommendations from the Royal Commission into Family Violence.
