Accredited Basic Training Positions in Paediatrics – SRMO Recruitment Information Night
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is moving to network-based training programs. Recruitment into the training program is based on a number of criteria including provision of continuity of training for those selected. Recruitment is predominantly at JRMO selection – Basic Physician Trainee Year 1 (BPT1). It is intended that those selected into training will then progress through basic training, unless major performance or professional issues are identified. The Directors of Physician Education (DPE) and the Workforce Units at Royal Children’s Hospital and Monash Children’s Hospital in conjunction with representatives of all current training sites in Victoria have been working to develop this model of training which commenced in 2019 with ongoing review and development.
Concurrently the RACP is redesigning the basic training curricula and training program.
In 2022, the Department of Health established the Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Consortium (VBPTC) to coordinate paediatric basic training across Victoria. The extended rural training stream (ERS) recruited the first JRMO in 2022 and runs in parallel to the current Statewide training scheme.

An information evening will be held on 31 May 2022 for prospective SRMO.
