Social work and elder abuse teams at the Kingston Centre will celebrate the 70^th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights on Tuesday and everyone is encouraged to join in and find out more.

10 December is Human Rights Day and also the final of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): a milestone document proclaiming the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

This year’s theme is Youth Standing up for Human Rights. Read a bit more about the theme and how Human Rights relate to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

For older people to be free from abuse is central to their human rights, which is why the elder abuse team will join in as part of Tuesday’s activities.

From 11.30 to 1.30pm on Tuesday at the Kingston Centre, there will be information from a variety of support services, such as Seniors Rights Victoria, available at an information desk in the link way. There will also be information on Victoria’s Human Rights Charter.
