At today’s employee forum, Chief Executive Andrew Stripp announced the first STAR Award winner for 2021. He was joined by the winners in Excellence in Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing, the Security team from the Monash Children’s Hospital.

The security team at Monash Children’s Hospital have continued to show commitment to keeping patients, their families and our employees safe every day.
During the pandemic, our community of adolescent patients have experienced a significant increase in distressed behaviours. This has required the increased and ongoing presence of the security team on Aviary Ward.
The security team brief with the nursing team daily. They round on high-risk patients and work to create a rapport with our young patients. This unique, professional relationship between the security team and the patients has been effective in de-escalating situations.
They always attend without hesitation to do a walk around the ward and increase visibility appropriately when required. Hearing the team on their rounds having a joke with the patients or seeing the personalised pictures the patients draw for the security team to say thank you speaks volumes of their professionalism, integrity and compassion.
The security team continue to provide a safe environment for everyone on the ward, including the nursing team, the young patients and their families.
Congratulations to the entire Security team at Monash Children’s Hospital!
