Managing your emotions and COVID-19

As we continue to work through the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s only natural that you may experience feelings of stress, anxiety and frustration.

The most important thing to know is that you are never alone, and that support is available to help you manage these types of feelings.

Starting a conversation about your mental health or that of your colleagues and loved ones can make a real difference to how you recognise and manage your emotions daily. You can do this by reaching out to any of these resources and support services.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, there are several techniques that can help you practice self-care, including:

  • Stay grounded and maintain a routine
  • Stay informed, but take a break from media intake
  • Take moments for mindfulness and relaxation
  • Stay connected and seek support

If you need to talk about what you’re experiencing or are unsure what you’re feeling, please call Converge International, Monash Health’s Employee Assistance Provider. One of their specialist councillors can offer you confidential counselling and coaching support to help you manage your emotions.

If you would like to speak to a Monash Health colleague, you have access to Monash Health’s Call a Psychologist service if you are significantly impacted by COVID-19. The Call a Psychologist service is also available for team support where the team is finding it difficult to function fully and are impacted by COVID-19.  This service can be provided in person or via teleconferencing.  To set up a time that works for you or your team please call 0418 905 414, and a psychologist will return your call.

If you or someone you care about, is in a mental health crisis or emergency there is always help available. If you would like to speak to someone external to Monash Health, please access the following support services that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

  • Lifeline – 13 11 14
  • Beyondblue – 1300 22 4636
  • Kids Help Line – 1800 55 1800
