At our weekly employee forum, Chief Executive Andrew Stripp announced our first STAR Award winners for Quarter 3 2021. The categories awarded this week were Excellent Experiences and Improving Care and Access.
Excellent Experiences
The winner for Excellent Experiences is Janette Briscoe. Janette is a Wellbeing Assistant at Chestnut Gardens. Recently, she initiated the process of moving a husband and wife living in separate rooms into one double room at Chestnut Gardens.
During the move, the husband mentioned that he liked playing the piano, but his wife found the noise annoying.
Janette brought in a keyboard and headphones so that he could play without annoying his wife. He also commented that the headphones would also drown out her nagging!
Not only did Janette move this couple back together and give the husband something fun to do each day, but she also took a short video of him playing and sent it to the couple’s daughter, who reportedly cried some happy tears. In just one week, Janette managed to bring so much joy to the lives of a family under our care. Thank you, Janette!
Improving Care and Access
The winner in this category is Matt Woronczak. 
Matt is a clinician in our Emergency Department, based at Dandenong Hospital. After more than three years of leading the development of Fracture Management Guidelines for Monash Health Emergency Departments, Matt had this guideline endorsed, and it is now accessible on Prompt.
Matt is the most experienced ED clinician in the Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy team. Through his role in the ED, Matt noted the varying interpretation of ‘standard fracture management’ amongst ED clinicians. To facilitate consistent, evidence-based management by all ED Clinicians, Matt worked with representatives from ED, Orthopaedics and Plastics to develop an easy-to-follow guideline.
Three years of Matt’s consulting and tactful engagement has led to a document that will contribute to ensuring that safe, suitable management is provided to paediatric and adult patients presenting to all Monash Health Emergency Departments. Well done Matt!
