Our recent STAR Award winner for In Pursuit of Excellence is Jane Crossett, Nurse Manager of Level 3 Dandenong Dialysis.
The In Pursuit of Excellence award is for an individual, group or team who have personified our intent to be relentless in the pursuit of excellence. This may include:
Demonstrating continued improvement in their approach to work.- Embodying the principles of teamwork, kindness, achievement and quality.
- Making an outstanding contribution to the experience of our people, patients or consumers.
Our Department of Nephrology nominated Jane for her exemplary contributions in the appointed Project Officer position of the Dialysis Transition Coordinator. In her position, Jane was responsible for overseeing the transition to a new supply contract for haemodialysis machines and consumables. During this time, the department also faced challenges from the peaks and surges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With thanks to Jane’s excellence, our employees and patients across Renal Services and Rural Satellite Dialysis Units enjoyed a safe, effective and positive transition to the new technology. Her calm, kind and dedicated approach to supporting the Nurse Managers and their teams is being recognised in this STAR Award.
In preparation for the roll out, Jane supported Nurse Managers by providing training roster plans and assisting with ordering new dialysis consumables. Meanwhile, Jane ensured that waste from outgoing dialysis consumables was minimised.
Jane also rolled up her sleeves and supported the dialysis nurses on the floor to take patient loads, particularly during surges of dialysis patients with COVID-19. She also went above and beyond her role, making herself available to support dialysis units in the evenings and on weekends.
Managers have described Jane as bright, cheery and helpful, with exceptional energy levels and enormous fun to be around. They cannot thank her enough for her professionalism, clear vision, and clinical credibility that she brought to the process. Her exceptional leadership qualities of adaptability, patience and composure in rapid changes and a stressful time in healthcare are commended by her colleagues.
Jane is thrilled about her nomination and winning the award.
“I am very honoured to receive the STAR award for my Haemodialysis transition coordinator’s role from October 2021 to December 2022, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am very proud of our frontline dialysis teams and managers for embracing this large change during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic period – without you, all these changes would not have been so successful.”
“I would like to acknowledge the support of the Monash Health Nephrology Directors Professor Peter Kerr, Professor Kevan Polkinghorne and my Director of Clinical Operations Jenny Soding for their belief in me and giving me this opportunity. I thank them as well for offering flexibility as this project role evolved and supporting necessary changes as we progressed. A big thank-you to Leanne Linehan, our Clinical Operations Manager Nephrology for her nomination and support, especially for the transition in our home therapies service.”
Congratulations to Jane for winning this STAR Award!
