At today’s employee forum, Chief Executive Andrew Stripp awarded another of our STAR Awards for the quarter. The winner in the category of Outstanding Care or Service Delivery is Brooke Webb.
Brooke is a Senior Social Worker at Monash Health. Recently, she managed a difficult case involving a pregnant patient who was in ICU. The team performed a C-section and her baby was born. However, the patient’s condition was life-threatening and deteriorating. Her family live overseas and could not fly to be with her or meet their grandchild due to COVID restrictions.
When faced with difficult circumstances, Brooke stepped up. She supported the patient’s husband during this difficult time and she also sent letters to the consulate to help them obtain an emergency visa so they could fly to Australia. The patient’s family were able to come to Australia and spend some time with their daughter before she sadly passed away.
Brooke did an amazing job liaising with the team, gathering and submitting support letters to the Embassy, and providing counselling and emotional support to the family. This was an upsetting situation with a tragic outcome, but Brooke and the entire Monash Health team did an outstanding job in providing care to the patient and supporting her family.
This is only one example of a situation where Brooke has gone above and beyond. Her team describe her as an exceptional social worker, who embodies our values every day. Thank you for the important work you do every day Brooke.
Brooke spoke to her experience as a social worker and team leader during the pandemic for our Beyond the Mask series. If you missed it, you can watch it here.
