People Matter – Improving our employee recognition program

In just under two weeks, the Victorian public sector’s annual employee opinion survey, People Matter, will open.

When the survey opens, we want to hear from you and your colleagues about making Monash Health a great place to work, and help us to shape the future workplace and inform our decisions.

In the 2018 People Matter survey, you told us that recognition was important to you. As a result, in 2019, we introduced our new Say Thanks and Recognise (STAR) program. Since then, we have over 722 nominations submitted and 45 winners announced across all award categories.

The STAR program focuses on recognising, acknowledging, and celebrating individuals and teams who bring to life and demonstrate their commitment to our guiding principles and values. The eight categories available to nominate a colleague or team in are:

  • In Pursuit of Excellence
  • Outstanding Care or Service Delivery
  • Excellent Experiences
  • Exceptional Teamwork
  • Excellence in Research, Teaching and Innovation
  • Improving Care and Access
  • Managing Wisely
  • Excellence in Occupational health, safety and wellbeing

In 2020, the quarterly STAR award recipients became a regular fixture at the Tuesday Employee Forums with Chief Executive Andrew Stripp interviewing winners. We look forward to continuing this format into the future.

In 2019, we introduced the STAR cards; a meaningful way to let a colleague or team know that you notice and appreciate their efforts, big and small. In 2020 we adapted the STAR cards into e-card templates available for you to download, personalise and email straight to your colleague or team.

Stay tuned as we continuing to improve and expand the program in 2021.To nominate a colleague for an award, order a STAR card or learn more about the STAR program, visit the dedicated webpage.
