Excellence in stroke care – read more about STAR winner Dr Andy Lim

At today’s employee forum, Chief Executive Andrew Stripp awarded Dr Andy Lim the STAR award for Excellence in Research, Teaching and Innovation.

Andy is an emergency physician at Monash Medical Centre. He continually displays a commitment to excellence through his ongoing work in health research.

As consultant emergency physician, Andy represented all emergency department sites from Monash Health in a redesign of stroke services across Monash Health sites and community services. This also included producing an internal industry report and discovery of significant recoverable costs.

He designed the stroke protocol for Holmesglen Private Hospital to better align with the procedure at Monash Health. He shared this information with stakeholders, such as GPs and Ambulance Victoria, to minimise practice variation and maximise the safety of stroke patients in the local community.

Andy has also recently spearheaded an international consortium that reported on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ‘mini-stroke’ hospital processes. He drew together 18 centres from seven countries, including Australia, France, UK, and the USA, to collaborate and report their health service data. The experience was then shared globally, in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, to help stroke services around the world.

On top of all of this, Andy also contributes to the academic community through various volunteer positions.

Andy is a shining example of the excellence we aim for at Monash Health. Congratulations Andy!
